Oskar Huber Furniture Company Reduces Stem Times, While Increasing Daily Deliveries - February 2006
Oskar Huber Furniture is a family-owned retailer with its main location in Southampton, PA. In addition to the Southampton store, there is a store in Philadelphia, PA, one in Cherry Hill, NJ and one in Ship Bottom, NJ. All offer the highest quality of fine furniture and services to their customers.
In December of 2004, Oskar Huber upgraded their delivery fleet by implementing the cost-effective demountable truck body system manufactured by Demountable Concepts, Inc. Before the Demountable System, Oskar Huber had to endure cluttered warehouse floor space. According to Don Huber, Co-President at Oskar Huber Furniture, “With demountables we can turn the warehouse floor space more often, load more trucks during the day, thus making the existing warehouse space and associates more productive.”
Oskar Huber had another problem that required a solution. They were facing long drive times to their Cherry Hill (22 miles) and Ship Bottom (85 miles), NJ locations. “We like to start our deliveries at 7a.m., arriving at the first stop by 7:30 a.m. With Ship Bottom being two hours away and Cherry Hill being 45 minutes away, without demountables, this would require very early start times or later arrival times.” Don Huber stated.
Don Huber claims that, “By using demountable bodies, we have been able to expand our operation and maximize the efficiencies and effectiveness of our Distribution Center. We now load the bodies during the day and shuttle the bodies in the evening to the local markets of each showroom. Our delivery teams are making deliveries in their local markets at 7AM and have a full day to focus on their main task.”
Demountable Concepts, Inc., of Glassboro, NJ, manufactures the demountable truck body system. This system allows delivery trucks to use multiple bodies to maximize efficiency. Bodies can be quickly demounted from a truck at the loading dock allowing a company to have a free-standing box at their warehouse. With multiple, interchangeable bodies for each truck, the company can load furniture during normal business hours. One body is standing at the warehouse being loaded while the other is on the truck making deliveries. When the driver returns, he swaps bodies and is ready to get back on the road.
