Office Depot Uses Demountable Bodies To Streamline Florida Deliveries - Spring 2001

Retail office supply giant, Office Depot, is using a unique delivery system to cut its delivery costs in Southern Florida. The company is shuttling loaded Demountable Truck Bodies at night from their distribution center in Weston (near Fort Lauderdale) to Ft. Myers on the West Coast. The loaded bodies are demounted off the shuttle trucks and await the local delivery trucks to mount them in the morning. The shuttle trucks return with empty bodies from the previous day to be loaded at the distribution center. The Fort Myers' drivers spend their entire day delivering product, not driving across the state to make their first delivery (a savings of approximately 4 hours per day). The demountable body system has allowed Office Depot to service this market without expensive regional warehousing or cross-dock facilities. The system is easily expandable for future growth in other markets.
