A Cleveland based delivery team for Levin Furniture had a little more in their stocking this past holiday after posting a company record for home delivery revenue. In the two weeks leading up to Christmas, the team delivered $300,000 in revenue. This achievement would not have been possible without the use of the Demountable Truck Body system Levin’s had in place for a number of years.
The demountable truck body system enables the driver to spend his entire day delivering furniture. By mounting a pre-loaded body in the morning, the driver can begin his deliveries immediately. Loaded bodies are actually shuttled on a special trailer from the company’s Smithton, PA distribution some 175 miles away. The time spent swapping bodies is minimal. On busy days, driver teams can make two delivery runs with no down time at all.
Here’s how Levin’s team accomplished this astounding feat:
- 6:00AM – Clock in, check paper work, mount body.
- 6:30AM – Begin driving to first delivery.
- 7:00AM – Arrive at first stop.
- Thru 2PM – Finish deliveries and return to Middleburg Heights store.
- 2:15PM – Swap empty body for a second loaded one and begin delivering again.
- Continue deliveries until finished, typically around 6PM.
Scott Frazier, Levin’s Ohio Operations Director has grown accustomed to awesome numbers from his Cleveland delivery teams. He outlines the record setting accomplishment as well as other relevant numbers:
- Two-week revenue total by one team of $300,000.
- Average ticket per delivery is $1,200.
- This team averaged 20 stops and 200 miles per day.
- With a total of 9 demountable trucks, Levin delivered $5.2 million in revenue for December in the Cleveland market.
With product being loaded in Smithton and no need for a cross-dock in Cleveland, the only thing his driver teams do is deliver furniture.
