Haverty’s Furniture Opens New Flordia Distribution Center With Help From The Demountable Truck Body System - 2005

Furniture retail giant, Havertys, has recently opened a new distribution center in Florida in order to serve its customers more efficiently. Phil Griffin, General Manager at the new Florida Distribution Center, says that, “The Florida Distribution Center is to supply and deliver merchandise to the West Palm Beach, Ft. Myers, Lakeland, Tampa, and Orlando profit centers.”
“Consolidating the warehouses into a larger distribution center enables us to do our processes consistently. It helps with standardization of policies and procedures.” Griffin also sees a change in delivery and states, “there is now going to be more upgrading and standardization of our prep and load quality. Also, by using the demountable trailers, we are able to go into our markets without having to purchase additional property for warehouses.”

This is all made possible due to using the Warehouse-On-Wheels System by Demountable Concepts, Inc.. The Warehouse-on-Wheels system allows a retailer to service remote markets seamlessly without regional warehousing or cross-dock operations. It allows the centralized distribution center to maintain control over the loading of product onto straight truck bodies. A specially designed trailer shuttles two loaded bodies at night to the remote markets. Those bodies are then demounted off the trailer. Non-CDL delivery drivers, domiciled locally, mount the loaded bodies and immediately begin their deliveries. The trailer mounts the previous days empties and returns to the distribution center.
