Southeastern PA Chapter Implements Unique Delivery System - July 6, 2001
Since the summer of 1998 the Southeastern Pennsylvania Chapter of Goodwill Industries has been operating their straight trucks with far more efficiency than other Goodwill chapters. This location uses the Demountable Truck Body System by Demountable Concepts; allowing tractor-trailer efficiency with non-CDL straight trucks.
According to Rick Moser, VP of Retail Operations of the Lancaster, PA based chapter, labor savings have been immediately realized. The driver no longer requires a “helper” to ride along with him for assistance in unloading the truck. The driver simply demounts a loaded body at the store and returns to the warehouse with an empty body from the previous run. Store personnel unload the body at their convenience and notify the warehouse when the body is available for pick-up. With alternate bodies already at the warehouse, material for other stores can be pre-loaded without having to wait for the truck to return. The driver is more productive because he is delivering to more stores in fewer hours. Truck maintenance and insurance costs are also reduced because one truck is now doing the work of many.
Moser adds, “The system has exceeded our expectations in providing a lower cost of doing business. The decision to purchase the demountable system turned out to be a great one.” Demountable Concepts has helped hundreds of companies in various industries reduce distribution costs and increase labor efficiency. |
