Chandler's Plywood Products and Demountable Concepts, Inc., Working Together To Deliver Cabinets & Supply Since 1990 - August 10, 2005

Terry Thornburg, President of Chandler’s Plywood Products, Inc., in Huntington, WV, has been delivering its lumber products using the demountable system for the past fifteen years.

Before using the demountable system, Terry Thornburg stated, “I had a lot of extra trucks. I originally owned a fleet of 16 trucks. This was a problem for me because I only ran about half of them at one time. I allowed the others that I owned to sit around. I used these extra trucks to load up deliveries for the following day. With the system implemented, I was able to reduce our fleet size to eight trucks. Now, where I had the extra trucks in place to be loaded, I have demountable bodies.”

The Demountable Truck Body System was not the first system that Terry Thornburg contemplated over. “I thought the solution to all my problems would be in the form of trailers. This idea did not work for me because I had customers whose lumberyards were too small for a huge trailer to fit comfortably in it to operate.”

Terry Thornburg also had an idea. “I went to my local truck equipment shop, and I asked if they could build trucks with bodies that stood on legs so I could preload. They turned down my idea to make this product. A few weeks later I saw an ad in a magazine talking about a Demountable Truck Body System. My idea was already out there, so it was simple, I made the call to Demountable Concepts, Inc..”

Over the years, Terry Thornburg found different benefits in using the demountable system. “The biggest benefit that I’ve found over the years was the reduction of the fleet size. Having 16 trucks in my fleet caused me to lose a lot of space in my yard. Thanks to the demountable system, I was able to take that fleet size down 50%. This saved me a lot of money. I now had less insurance, less maintenance, and less fuel costs on my hands.”

After using this system for some time now, Terry Thornburg noticed over the years some surprising benefits that he did not originally know about. “One day, I had a truck break down on the road. I was able to send another truck out there and swap bodies. In doing so, I was able to still do that day’s deliveries and not have the hassle of taking time to unload and reload a new truck.”
