Bob’s Discount Furniture expands out of the New England States and into New Jersey with the help of the Demountable System - October 2005

Since its birth in 1991, Bob’s Discount Furniture has grown into a 22-store chain with stores throughout CT, MA, ME and NH. As of October 6, 2005, Bob’s Discount Furniture opened its first store outside of the New England states in Totawa, New Jersey, making this its 23rd location.

Bob’s Discount Furniture’s expansion into its fifth state is made possible by using the demountable Warehouse on Wheels system manufactured by Demountable Concepts, Inc. This system allows a trailer to take two preloaded bodies, at off-peak hours, to their Totawa site. When the trailer reaches the Totawa store, the driver can then demount the two preloaded bodies and mount the two empty bodies that were left there from the day before. After this is done, the trailer can then return the bodies back to the main distribution center in Taftville, CT to be loaded and ready for the next day’s deliveries. With the two loaded bodies dropped off, the Totawa store then uses two straight trucks to mount the bodies and leave for early a.m. deliveries.

Because the warehouse on wheels system works so well for Bob’s Discount Furniture, they plan on expanding even further into New Jersey by opening a new store in Paramus some time next year. These store openings, along with the expansion of their distribution center, will soon account for Bob’s Discount Furniture’s increase in the ranks as one of the Top 100 furniture companies. Using the demountable system has allowed them to continue to be one of the strongest furniture chains around.
