Why do companies implement the Warehouse on Wheels System?
Warehouse on Wheels is utilized to efficiently service markets as far as hundreds of miles away from a centralized distribution center without the costs of operating regional warehouses or cross-docks. The system is also a cost-effective way to expand distribution into new markets without investing in brick and mortar facilities.
How does the Warehouse on Wheels System work?
At a central distribution center, up to four demountable bodies are through-loaded for delivery routes or retail stores at a single bay. The pre-loaded bodies are line-hauled to “drop yard” locations at remote markets on the Warehouse on Wheels semi-trailer and demounted. Next, locally domiciled delivery trucks mount the bodies loaded for their route and make deliveries. Empty bodies from the previous round of deliveries make the return trip on the semi-trailer to the distribution center for reloading.
How is this system different from the Demountable Truck Body System?
The Warehouse on Wheels semi-trailer is specially equipped with self-contained lift and lowering capabilities for mounting, demounting and shuttling multiple bodies to an outlying market. Each van body is built with overhead doors at the front and rear to allow through-loading at the distribution center. For local deliveries at the outlying market the system relies on the Demountable Truck Body System’s Chassis-Lift equipped straight-trucks.
What kind of warranty is included with the Warehouse on Wheels System?
The Warehouse on Wheels semi-trailer system includes a 1 year limited warranty.
Is training available for the Warehouse on Wheels System?
Personal, on-site training of drivers, supervisors and mechanics is included with the purchase of the Warehouse on Wheels System, along with manuals, instructional videos and customer service support by calling 1-800-254-3643.
How much time is needed for a line-haul driver to swap loaded bodies for empties?
A line-haul driver who is relatively new to the system’s operation may need up to an hour to make the switch. After a couple of weeks of swapping bodies each day, that time should be reduced to approximately 30 minutes or less.
How much room is required to swap bodies on and off the semi-trailer?
A straight line run of open area 150' to 160' long by 25' wide is ideal. The terrain should also be relatively level and flat.
How do I know if the bodies are securely locked onto the semi-trailer?
On the trailer there is a dedicated locking handle for each body equipped with an alarm system that includes an LED warning light and audio alert.
Can existing trucks and bodies be converted to the Warehouse on Wheels System?
Trucks can be converted. Van bodies cannot be converted to the Warehouse on Wheels System because they must be built with an overhead door in both the front and rear.
Can different body lengths be utilized on the Warehouse on Wheels semi-trailer?
Different body lengths are incompatible. The Warehouse on Wheels semi-trailer is custom designed to best suit each client’s needs and can only mount and safely transport bodies built to specific dimensions which are determined by the trailer’s size.
